# Obtaining voting rights

The BTM you hold cannot be directly used for voting. Before voting, you need to exchange BTM for voting rights at a 1:1 ratio. You can exchange BTM for votes at any time, and you can also convert votes back to BTM at any time. This operation will not cost your BTM.

First, you need to go to the BytomDAO's website, launch the governance application, and scroll to the "Get Votes" feature module.

Here, you will see the current voting shares you possess. You can click "Get more" to exchange your BTM for shares used for voting.Of course, consistent with other procedures, you first need to approve the use of your BTM shares.

Similarly, you can click "Exchange for BTM" to convert your votes back to BTM.

Once you have obtained voting rights, you can participate in the governance of BytomDAO.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://docs.bytomdao.org/docs/governance/obtaining-voting-rights.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
